Edwin Johnson is a multi-instrumentalist, sound engineer, producer and composer. His inspiration to work in the field of music first came from his family, where he was encouraged to be a drummer and engineer. As he developed, it became clear Ed had an affinity for musical production so he naturally took every opportunity to develop and hone his skills. Although Ed has primarily focused on drumming and percussion for the past 35 years, his stellar musicianship is immediately apparent in the studio where he is also comfortable picking up a bass or acoustic guitar or working out harmonies and melodies on a keyboard.

In 2001, Ed began working for Turtle Recording in White Rock, BC. Since then, he has been the in-house drummer and percussionist there, adding his groove to countless album projects. Ed is a versatile drummer with experience in the genres of jazz, rock, metal, country, acoustic folk and electronica. He is best known for his solid time, sensitive feel and ‘one takes’ in the studio. Ed has also played for a variety of musicians including Paul Rodgers, Bo Didley, Daniel Wesley, and is currently the regular drummer for Vancouver based band Brickhouse. He also shared his expertise as a live audio sound engineer working at Vancouver’s then premium live music bar, The Yale from 2003-2011.

Since 2009, Ed has also been working out of his private overdub and practice studio where he collaborates with clients on pre/post production as well as song arrangements. His studio is a welcoming, comfortable, inspiring space where studio musicians and clients can easily set up and be ready to work within a matter of minutes. Professional and organized, people are in excellent hands here.

Ed is also an open-minded, generous and genuinely kind person. He works hard to understand what his clients want to produce, yet at the same time offers insightful ideas, revealing an exemplar creative and analytical mind. His reputation around Vancouver for having great ears in live audio mixing is a testament to this skill set. What do they say about Ed?  "If he’s not playing in it, he's mixing it".

In his spare time, Ed enjoys writing and composing his own music which he hopes to release to the public later this year. He is also a dedicated family man to his wife, children and close friends.
